Dia de las brujas

We had a blast last night for Halloween! Sofie did very well. There was about 11 in our group when we went trick-or-treating. We had a big group. This month has been awesome. I turned 28. Which is OK because older means wiser, right?

Jeff bought me a sectional for my birthday. Yes, you read that right, brand new furniture.

I also started making hairbows for Sofie. I taught myself how using youtube. I also made her trick or treat sack out of felt to resemble a candy corn. It turned out very cute. I had to sew by hand so it took me a while. If you know of anyone getting rid of one, I could give it a good home.

Ya era tiempo...

Well, I know, it's about time. Where do I start? Sofie has been growing up so fast. Jeff has been teaching her strange things. But you might have imagined that already. One of the things she can do is make the Transformers noise. While I was holding her one day she just started making this "kkkkkkkk" sound. I just couldn't think of what it was until the next day when Jeff asked her, what does a Transformer say? She repeated the noise over and over. I just laughed because I know she is a daddy's girl. She is a little strong willed, which reminds me of me but as for everything else she is just like him. She is also a little picky about what she eats. It sounds hard to believe at 25 pounds but we have a hard time getting her to eat at most meals. We recently bought her the perfect costume for Halloween. Her Nana's and my favorite Halloween candy, candy corn. She is short and sweet! She loves wearing it and she looks adorable. I can no longer buy her infant clothes. Looks like we will be moving up to the toddler section in a couple more months! We did okay during the hurricane. We lost our fence, so now everyone that drives on Pasadena Blvd. can see into our backyard. We also lost a few shingles and some siding. We are still waiting for an insurance adjustor...ha. I felt very blessed because we got power two days after the storm. I was able to house all of my family members. At one point the most people we had living here was 14 people. I was very sad to see my sisters leave. It had been about five years since we all slept under the same roof. Kinda cool. I am pretty sure though that Jeff was not at all sad but relieved. It's amazing how much you can learn about someone once they "stay" with you for awhile. 14 days to be exact. But we love them no matter what. Did anyone eat one of those MRE things? Jeff seemed to like it. My baby sister Erica had her little baby girl, Evelyn Irene Aleman, on 9/16/08. She weighed 7lbs. 4oz. That was only 6ozs. more than Sofie! It was fun when they stayed with us. It made me realize that I can't wait to have another little baby in the house. I think it would be alot easier this time...except for the pregnancy. That might be the same.

¡Un chango!

We had a little outing to the zoo on Friday and had a blast. It was a little hot but we still had fun. Sofie started mimicking the monkeys. She would grin and dance while saying, "ooh, ooh". It was so cute. She also loved the huge fish tank.

Mi blancanieves

Wow! She is one now. I can't believe it. I have a one year old! I read in a book that after one they are no longer babies they become toddlers. Well, what does that mean anyway? Unless, they mean that your child is completely transformed into this whole other little person you thought you knew. That seems likely. Sofie has started having tantrums. Yes, real, screaming tantrums. I know it is just too hard to believe so I will include a video to prove my point. In this video you will witness my sweet child throwing a fit because it was time to put away her toy (a five foot piñata of Snow White). This is actually one of her more mild tantrums but a tantrum nonetheless. In case you missed Ms. Sofie's fabulous Snow White party, her aunt Karen has created a photo slide show for you viewing pleasure. It was fun!

Su primer diente

Sofie's first tooth is here! We can't see it yet but it is sharp. Almost eleven months and finally it arrives. We are so excited! She has been cranky lately and hasn't been sleeping well. We assumed she was overstimulated with her new crab crawling but I am glad we were wrong. Just this morning her nana Suzie was saying it should be any day now. I am so happy she will have at least one tooth for her first birthday. Yeah!

Sofie has also started pretend talking on the phone. She will pick up anything and pretend to talk on the phone. She gets very loud and says a short bye at the end. She is really talking a lot more now too. I can't wait to see what her first words will be, mamí, I hope.

Ya mero

Sofie will be a year soon. Very soon. I just can't believe it. We had a fun time last week. I went to the Wave Pool with my students and it inspired me to let Sofie swim. We bought a family pool, 10'x6' 22 inches deep, so that we could beat the summer heat this year. She loved it! She just floated along. We also bought her a floaty that she could sit in. She has started singing in church now. She will sing along and when we stop, she stops. It is just too funny! She still enjoys playing with her feet. She is so clever that she uses them to get to things that are out of reach. Pictures to come.

¡Diez meses!

Sofie is wearing a cute strawberry hat.

My little Sofie is ten months today! I am so excited. I can't believe how much she has grown in the last ten months. Yesterday I held a 2 month old baby and Sofie just loved seeing the baby. She was really excited! She screamed and laughed. Today Karen held Sadie so that Sofie could look at her and the same thing happened. Poor Sadie looked very frightened. She is getting really fast at her army crawling too. When she is on the floor, she just takes off. She is very clever. She will use her finger to pick up stuff on the floor and put it in her mouth. Her nana says she crawls like a crab. Well a cute one anyway.

Mucho en un mes

So much has happened this month. Sofie got sick 3 times. She would seem to be better but then she would get a runny nose, a fever or a sore throat. From what the doctor tells us, she still has a couple of ulcers in the back of her throat. She prescribed a mixture of Maalox and benedryl. It sounded weird to me so I didn't give it to her. Maalox just doesn't seem like it is meant for kids. Plus she told me to give it to her when she wasn't eating well. Like that is ever a problem for my sweetie at 21 lbs. 14 oz. If I notice that she is not eating like normal, then I will follow the doctors orders, but for now since it is not going to heal the ulcers, I'll wait. I am giving her Tylenol and benedryl as needed. Does it sound crazy that I don't want to give my daughter Maalox? I know that it won't hurt her and I should trust my doctor, but I am just not comfortable with it.

Sofie also started to army crawl this past week. She has gotten really good at it now. She also says bye when she wants to and after I get off the phone with someone. Jeff taught her how to make motor noises with her mouth and finger. She loves to mimic the sounds of words. The doctor says that's a sign of intelligence...of course. She loves playing outside on the grass. She enjoys X-box with daddy also. When you say Nana or daddy or mamí, she looks at the person. She laughs so sweetly when we play peek a boo. She pulls the blanket up and down, it is funny to watch. I was able to get her to sport the "Shelby" do. I pulled up as much hair as I could and put a rubber band and a bow in it. I see some curls in her hair too. She looks so cute with a bow in her hair. She also loves to pick up things with her feet. She will just grab at stuff with her feet and bring it up to her hands. As soon as I figure out how to add video I will add this because it is hysterical. I can't believe how time is just flying by.

La leyenda de la flor "el conejo"

The Legend of the Bluebonnet by Tomie de Paola is one of my favorites. I love all Tomie de Paola books! I love the vocabulary he uses in his Spanish books. He is a great writer and illustrator. Well, Sofie had a great time getting to roll around on the Kelli's new carpet. We went to Drew's fourth birthday party this weekend. It was good seeing the boys again and it's always good seeing Ms. Shelby! Kelli, your house is beautiful! I love the brightness of the paint you picked out. The cabinets are awesome in the dark stain. Thank you for having us over, we had a great time! About half a mile from Kelli's, there is an area where you can go and take pictures of the bluebonnets. They have parking and everything, too cool. But I got some great shots of Sofie in the bluebonnets. I also got a great shot of Sofie eating the bluebonnets. But I will not add that picture since I was told that was a felony also. She is too young for us to be bailing her out. Kelli made a book for Drew about vacuums, I think I will make Sofie a bluebonnet book...plus she looks good in blue. I included some pictures of her wearing her blue hair clip that her tia Robyn made her. It matches her ice cream dress perfectly. Thank you Robyn!

Muy fotogénica

Sofie loves to have her picture taken. Once she sees the camera her face really lights up. I love that she does that because it makes for great photos. Over spring break we had her picutre taken several times. They did a great job at Kiddie Kandids in Babies R Us. Don't you agree? We also went to the museum for the first time. I put the bink in her mouth so that she wouldn't eat all of the toys that weren't hers. She had a good time looking around and watching others walk and crawl around her. She's really rolling over very well these days. I am sure she will start to crawl any day now...well maybe in another month. But you never know!
